As the largest monkeypox outbreak and community transmission persist globally, a medical expert has cautioned the public on the need to avoid close contact with people showing symptoms suggestive of the infection.

A Medical Director at the General Hospital Igbokoda, Dr. Ezekiel Edino Idoko while speaking with Awawa Fm correspondents, Ayodele Aduwo and Philip Goodluck, described Monkey Pox as a reawaken viral endemic, explaining further that the common symptoms of the disease include rashes on the body, hitching, general body weakness, sore throat, enlargement of glands under the jaw and in the neck, body and joint pain.

Urging adherence to safety measures, the expert tasked the public to avoid contacts with animals that could harbor the virus, and to ensure that biosecurity measures are taken to contain the virus.
