EVERY 24TH OF MARCH MARKS WORLD TUBERCULOSIS

Every 24th of March marks World Tuberculosis , TB Day, to commemorate the day Dr. Robert Koch in 1882 discovered the bacterium causing Tuberculosis. The day is annually set aside to promote public awareness about tuberculosis and its severe health challenge and implication in the society.
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that affects the lungs and spreads through the air from one person to another.
According to the Data from World Health Organization WHO, Tuberculosis kills over 4,100 people per day, about 30,000 people contract the disease each day regardless of the fact that it is treatable.
In a chat with AWAWA FM correspondents, Mrs Akinbolade Blessing a TB officer at the Basic Health Center Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, said Tuberculosis is a chronic disease caused by micro Bacteria, adding that night sweats, fever, coughing, more than two weeks among others are symptoms of TB.
In the same vein Mr peter who is also a TB officer said Tuberculosis is an air borne disease contracted adding that the only person that can’t get contracted with TB is a person that have his own Oxygen.
Mrs Blessing appealed to those people that have contracted TB to come for Medical checkup so that others wil not get contract it through them.. She also urged residents to get use to nose masks in order to prevent the spread of TB.
