The nose cover gears sprung up as a trend and an emergency safety measure against the ravaging coronavirus that seized the world by the jugular in year 2020.
Awawa FM correspondents, Ebenezer Timilehin and Peter Ebimie who went to the street to touch base with people on the reason the nose covers are no longer used reported that most people appear to have abandoned the use of face masks despite the fact that it was and it is still the surest safety measure against contracting coronavirus, a health challenge which caused havoc to lives across the globe for most parts of 2020.
Our correspondents revealed most traders believe the virus is no longer a threat and have abandoned the daily use of face masks. Hawkers, roadside sellers, shop traders, clothe dealers, food sellers, textile sellers and many more are no longer paying attention to the safety measure of wearing the nose mask in public place and no one observes the social distancing rule anymore.
In an exclusive interview with Awawa FM , Jegede Folake, a market woman opined that the reason people are not adhering to the NCDC’s guideline for COVID 19 is because of the hot temperature in Ondo state.
In the same vein, a respondent , Mr kayode opined that the reason why people don’t adhere to COVID 19 safety measures is because of the lawless nature of the country
A medical Director who spoke with Awawa FM blamed the government for its insincerity in addressing issues on COVID 19. He further stated that the humid weather in Nigeria is another factor why Nigerians do not adhere to the COVID 19 safety measures.
“The recent surge in cases of Omicron variant in china could extend to Nigeria if proper measures are not in place to curtail it”. He added.
He advised people not to adopt relaxed attitude towards COVID 19 and Omicron variant pandemics as WHO has not declared Nigeria free from the virus.
