It would be recalled that students from various universities in the country, particularly in the South West have taken to the major roads and blocking the highways to protest the strike embarked on by Academic Staff Union of Universities ,ASUU, which has crippled academic activities in the past few months.
Speaking with newsmen on Wednesday, former Deputy National President of Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Comrade Joseph Akinlaja said the lingering strike by the ASUU, shows that the country has failed to continue the tradition of prioritizing education as a tool for economic and political development, which was attained and maintained by leaders in the past.
Another stakeholder who spoke with Awawa FM, Dr Layi Oladipupo lamented that the language the Federal Government understood is demonstrations
He urged government to be alive to its responsibilities and keep to the agreement it had with ASUU, adding that Government must take education seriously.
